The Windsor Photographic Society

Monochrome Special Interest Group

Monochrome Special Interest Group

The group was formed in late 2022 and is open to all Society members that have an interest in monochrome photography.

At the time of writing (July 2023) there are fifteen members.

One of the main aims of the group is to encourage and enable members to grow in creativity and produce images that demonstrate this.

There is a regularly challenge where members of the group are encouraged to upload an image to a Dropbox folder. Over the next few weeks other members of the group attempt to provide a constructive critique of the image. This particularly considers things such as:

  • What was the intention of the photographer?
  • How has post processing enhanced this?
  • Is there any kind of extra element in the image?
  • Is there a narrative or story?
  • What effect has the lighting had on the creation of the image?
  • What feelings does the image invoke?
  • What is this image about rather than what is it an image of?

Occasionally the group meet together for some kind of mono-based photographic activity.

If you have an interest in monochrome photography and in developing your own creativity as a photographer then please contact Diana Moss to find out more.

During the last few months of 2023 members of the group were encouraged to submit some high-key and low-key images to be critiqued both by themselves and other members of the group. Here's a selection of the images:
